Frequently Asked Questions
Smiths Concrete have lodged a planning application with Warwickshire County Council as Minerals Planning Authority.
If they get permission, they plan to excavate 1,800,000 (1.8 million) tons of sand and gravel from 220 acres of rich farmland just 350 yards from the villages of Barford and Wasperton over the next 10 to 15 years (at the very least)!
Here's the proposed location of the quarry
So far, there have been over 2,500 objections submitted to the plans.
Substantial deficiences in the plans and supporting documents have been identified by Warwickshire County Council departments, external statutory consultees and by individual responses.
As a result, Warwickshire County Council have since issued a Regulation 25 Request for Information to Smiths Concrete.
As of July 2024 no further information has been forthcoming.
The Request runs to 30 pages and covers almost all aspects of the submitted plans and documentation ranging from Air Quality to Restoration of the land.
It also requires Smiths to complete a full Habitat Regulations Assessment for the site.
